Graphic Novels: More than Just Pictures

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Graphic novels are the perfect bait to hook the most reluctant reader. They provide the visual meal that 21st century students crave, while offering a less intimidating textual platform. However, even though graphic novels are primarily “graphics,” they contain the same literary elements as a traditional story in a high interest delivery.

Competencies:
Students write a “letter,” just in graphic novel format, using the writing techniques of comic writers (narration, speech bubbles, and illustration for descriptions).
Graphic novels can provide young readers and writers with the practice thy need to effectively incorporate equally balanced description, dialogue, and narration to make their stories come alive.
There's a ever-growing list of graphic novel titles for all ages out there right now. Participants will be exposed to many titles for reference and use in the classroom. They will not leave hungry books, so to speak.
